Leaving behind the stresses & bustle of modern living and unplug for a digital detox and to live in the moment.
Perfect for couples to reconnect and families to spend quality time together doing the old fashioned things like playing board games or ‘Tig your it’, making mud pies etc
There are four units in total, two Yurts and two Geodesic Domes.
The Domes are 6.3m in diameter, have a lovely open feel and are 4 metres high. They are a unique space to experience and turn camping on its head. They are light and airy and very contemporary in design and furnishing. They are fully furnished and have a panoramic front window so you never feel closed in or dark as in normal camping. You can sit on the wettest or dullest of days and grab a great read, snuggle up on the sofa and just soak up the views without being overlooked. They are fully insulated and have an 8kw log burner to keep you toasty even on the coldest of nights in the low seasons. No need to don the wellies for the late night loo visit, the domes have their own indoor flushing toilet and hand basin making those night time dashes to the loo a thing of the past.
The Yurts are 5m in diameter and come with 3 large round windows with roll up blinds for privacy and to keep the light out until you want to get up 😉 They are fully furnished and also have a central skylight in the roof great for star gazing from your bed or watching the moon. They are furnished with a contemporary feel. The shower rooms & toilet are close by in the barn behind the units.
The Glampsite is in a separate field to the rest of the Dorset Hideaway Campsite and hedged on all sides – the hedge to the West having been planted only this year so is yet to fully establish, giving a view of the wider campsite at busier times of the year.
Our units are grouped together to create a community feel, they are not out in the far flung corners of the site making them difficult to access and a chore to check in! Each unit is fenced on 3 sides for complete privacy but is in close enough proximity to the others to be able to book for group occasions or meet and chat to your new neighbours and for the children to make new camping buddies.
The views from the units are of open uninterrupted countryside, trees, fields, farms and livestock and some beautiful hills. No traffic noise or roads nearby, although at times of the year farm machinery can be seen or heard in the surrounding fields. A great place to just sit, relax and soak it all in! We have kept the lighting low level and not intrusive you will fully appreciate this when the starry night time skies appear.
Access is via the main campsite entrance gates where you will find reception for check-in. Then a short drive down through the main campsite and along a road exclusively for the Glampsite guests with lighting for those late arrivals. Parking is behind each unit for one car and the units are accessed through their own personal gate with night time low level light. Each unit is built on a raised timber platform with low level deck lights and to help keep the area & unit clean and tidy underfoot the surrounding sides are laid out to gravel. They have a smaller timber platform to sit out on complete with table & chairs. In front of each unit is a wide open grassy area for all to use and a short stroll down the field there is a small stream complete with ramps and tree swing. Ideal area for den making or just getting muddy (sorry mum! 😉 Each unit has either a swing seat or hammock to lounge in or on – videos welcome of attempts to get in or out of them!
We are a dark skies site and to see them is to believe them, sat round a cosy outdoor fire pit with blankets to keep you warm what better way to spend an evening.
Each unit has its own outdoor covered small kitchenette, with tiled worksurfaces and two domestic 13 amp sockets and a light for night time use. You are welcome to bring any electric kitchen gadgets you wish to use in this area. You will have a full set of crockery, cutlery and cooking implements for the fire pit. This has a rack to bbq on. There is also a cookbook for ideas. One 20kg bag of logs and a large bag of BBQ charcoals are also provided per unit per stay. More can be purchased from the shop. Logs can be used both in the log burner and fire pits (keep them dry to avoid difficulty lighting or for a less smoky atmosphere). There is a cooler box which you can use on days out or on site. Ice packs can be found in the camp kitchen freezer. A water container with tap is provided and there is also an outdoor water tap on the perimeter fence of each unit. There are 8kw log burners to keep you toasty warm in the units.
A shared camp kitchen is available exclusively to all glamping guests. The kitchen is fully insulated and heated and has a table and bench seating area. There is a washing up sink area with hot water, a small dishwasher, a tall fridge and freezer with labelled shelves & drawers for each unit to use. There is a kettle, toaster, single halogen hob & small microwave/combi oven. Food prep worksurface area. Tea, coffee, sugar and UHT milk are provided for all to use. There is a cupboard of general basic condiments. Crockery, cutlery & cookware are provided in each unit so please do return them there after use. There is a smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector and fire extinguisher in all units and the camp kitchen.
