As if the beautiful Dorset scenery wasn’t reason enough to book your stay with us at The Dorset Hideaway…there’s so much more than meets the eye! We’ve gone above and beyond to ensure there is something for everyone. Read on to discover just some of the many activities and events available on site.
Really engage with the local scenery and take a circular walk right from the site entrance. Choose from a treasure trail or one with a pub in the middle or end! If you find yourself suitably inspired perhaps consider booking onto one of our art courses. Enjoy small tuition groups (maximum 6 people) either in the Art Studio or en plein air. Visit (http://philippayoung.blogspot.co.uk) and then click on The Dorset Hideaway button on the left hand side to learn more.
Why not try your hand at coarse fishing in our small pond, there is no charge for this and frozen bait is available to buy. Rods are difficult to maintain so we don’t hire them out but you can buy one from the shop if you’ve forgotten your own. While out and about on site there is also the opportunity to go metal detecting in the field with Mike, who knows what treasures you might unearth?!
Don’t forget to look out for the animals on the farm. You’ll spot Pigs, Shetland ponies and the Hens. You can collect fresh eggs from the Hens or even hire your own Hen for the night and wake up to fresh eggs right outside your door!
You’ll really feel all the fun of the farm on one of our famous Tractor Rides! These little jaunts run on a first come first served basis and they do get full quickly… there is a small fee but lots of fun! This isn’t just for the kids either, grab a nice cold cider or a glass of wine from reception and hop aboard for a lovely end to the day. Rides start at approximately 6pm and run until dusk in the field opposite the site, just listen out for the squeals of excitement from the kids (and sometimes the adults too!).
We have a great selection of games available to hire, all the family favourites including Jenga, Monopoly, Scrabble and Cluedo. If you’re looking for something else to keep the kids amused then look no further than our Kids Club. Run by local Scout leader Sean, this is a really flexible club that is tailor made to keep the mini campers entertained whatever the weather. They have mini scavenger hunts, tug of war battles, parachute games etc
You can book onto a fossil course in the Barn with Chris Duggan, who (rather excitingly!) recently featured on the The Sea Dragon with David Attenborough which aired earlier this year on the BBC.
Also in the barn, there is pool and table football and the trailer bar is open every night in high season. We run ad hoc quiz nights, bingo and hog roasts (pre-order). Other feasting options include wood fired pizza straight from the oven and Chinese or Indian takeaway, just remember to pre-order this from us in the morning so we can arrange delivery. Fresh bread and pastries can be ordered the day before as well as locally sourced breakfast & BBQ packs and indulgent hamper packages!
After all that there’s really only one thing left to do, relax…our on site Spa offers a range of beauty and therapy treatments. Book a treatment for yourself or your partner or perhaps a family member or friend. We also have a hot tub which can be hired for an hour as a couple or as a group (max 4 people). Just sit back unwind and think of the lovely things you’ve seen and done at The Dorset Hideaway!
